as soon as I load Live, the CPU meter (in the OS, not Live) jumps up to 70% or more. I love it because it's very flexible and sounds terrific. and, have you sold your mkII yet? If not, do PM me with what you're asking for it? Would appreciate it!Īs a side note to this topic, I have a question for other Mac/Motu828MkII users. unfortunately, I haven't really had an opportunity to sit down with both side-by-side. Having said that, I just picked up the RME Fireface 800! Why? I'm seriously slimming my studio and re-allocating resources to where they're most useful and the RME offers phenomenal quality and features in the next price bracket up from the Motu and I can still get a great price for the Mk2 in auction.Īre you finding a similar "wow-that's-waaaayy-better" difference between the mkII and the fireface? I've been looking at both of those (trying not to let price be the first determining factor), and was hoping to pick up one or the other later this month. I don't mean in a I-spent-a-bunch-of-cash-so-it-must-sound-better-but-is-it-or-isn't-it-? kind of way, I mean in a wow-that's-waaaay-better-come-and-listen-to-this kind of way. 828 then got the Mk2, spec/functionality-wise, see the posts above, sound-wise there's a WORLD of difference. I also prefer the simpler look of the original model but that could just be my own desire to keep it special in the face of better, cheaper siblings. (Oh the new mkII also has a midi port but it seems almost everything does these days so maybe you already have one) I am planning to uprgrade my 828 soon with the Behringer ADA8000 which uses the ADAT lightpipe to allow recording of an additional 8 channels, bringing the total to 20 analog input (10 with mic pre's). Unless you need the virtual mixer capabilities and the multiple channel zero latency (the original 828 can only do one stereo direct zero latency channel while recording - the 828MkII can do this will all of its channels I believe) you would probably do fine to get a good deal on a used original 828. It works flawlessly on both os9 and osX and sounds great as well. I own the original 828 which I bought shortly after it was released, and have carried with me as I upgraded from my old imac to my new ibook G4. I have listened to (not just heard) the Edirol FA101.Īny questions about the interface or its functionality, just let me know!! what else am I just not thinking of right now?. The fact that the headphone output has its own DAC has completely spoiled me, as I can now have it as my prelisten without giving up any of my 10 other analog outputs.CueMix DSP is so simple and convenient I use it for zero latency monitoring regardless of the fact that I already have an analog mixer. The sample clock is very low jitter (for an interface in this price range) and even offered a vast improvement in sound quality to my Delta 410's DAC's when the 828MkII was used as the master clock. I do not have an ADAT Lightpipe source however, so I cannot report on that capability. I can record from all 10 analog inputs simultaneously and flawlessly. This equates to about a 3ms output latency (reported as 5 in Lives audio preferences). He did, and I brought home the 828MkII, and never ever looked back.Īs far as latency is concearned, I normally run 48kHz with a 256 sample buffer. I owned that audio interface for about 3 hours, then I called Guitar Center and asked the manager if he would kindly stay open after hours, because I needed to return my new Firewire 410. I bought a Firewire 410 almost 8 months ago, very shortly after they were released.
